In September of 1977, NASA launched the Voyager 1 on a course leading it out of the solar system and into interstellar space. It is on track to be the first manmade object ever to do so and remains the most distant manamade object in the universe. The probe not only records and transmits information back to us, but also contains a selection of images and sounds that, in the all-too-likely event of our own annihilation, would serve as the only evidence of our ever having existed.
